V2: This is War
In conclusion to Mortalitatis V1: Gathering Storm, V2 takes place about 5 years after where V1 left off. The St Augustines have managed to crush the Eruditio and reclaim Athadra, establishing themselves as the most powerful noble family. The cost to glory is heavy, though: the patron of the family, Geoffrey Cinaed St Augustine, was forced to watch on as his younger sister Anna Belladonna St Augustine sacrificed herself to the gods in order to gain their favor and crush the Eruditio's rebellion. The loss of his beloved wife Cosette Felicity St Augustine (nee Chester) further added to his grief. Twisted by his anger, sadness, and lust for power, he has claimed himself as Emperor of the Imperium and holds and cruel and cold-hearted reign over his subjects.
Diminished by the toil placed on their heads by the enraged Lymphra, the Beverly family has been largely diminished, with Patricia Brunhild Beverly as its sole surviving member. Friends with the former St Augustine patroness Cosette, the last Beverly has now become the helmsman of the St Augustine reign.
The Chesters, meanwhile, under the leadership of Phenex Shax Chester, has declared itself independent of the Imperium and morphed with the Scintillae to form the State of Nyx. In comparison to the Imperium, it takes on a much more militant and republican form of government. The new State advocates for equality for all species and condemns the nepotism that the Imperium has followed for so long. They welcome anyone who stands against the Imperium, and have allowed the crushed and broken Eruditio to take refuge under their wings.
The del Bosque and Ferreira have been confined and closely monitored by the St Augustines, as Geoffrey fears that one day they would join forces with the Chesters. Their activity is limited to the respective cities they live in, and are forbidden from leaving the city.
The Wheelocks, though seemingly loyal to the St Augustines, have plans of their own. Not content with living under the breath of Geoffrey St Augustine, they seek to overthrow him and place themselves as the supreme rulers. All they are waiting for is an opportunity...
With the Nimrods transformed into Geoffrey's personal army of assassins and the Scintillae acting as the State of Nyx's military force, a clash is inevitable between the two. In a state of unrest, every move could be the one that pushes the last straw onto the camel.
Fickle gods, oppressive nobles, ancient prejudices, age-old feuds... All of these elements spiral together and strive to pull the land of Mortalitatis into destruction and chaos. In the end, what would be left of Mortalitaits? What would be left of you?
